Alcon experience Academy is a non-promotional training and education resource for eye care professionals. Our contact lens specialist Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov attended Alcon academy for eyecare excellence in Texas. Her purpose for attending this meeting was to stay on top of Alcon's new products and to ultimately better serve her patients.

In this academy meeting, she learned how to enhance her skills to fit Alcon's multifocal contact lenses and ensure success with the specific multifocal design they offer. During her multifocal training workshops, she worked with live patients to ensure that they were fitted with the most appropriate multifocal lenses.

What are multifocal contact lenses? Who is a good candidate for them?

Multifocal lenses combine multiple prescriptions into one contact lens, allowing you to see clearly at various distances with just one lens, which is ideal for patients with presbyopia.

Those patients usually begin to require reading glasses around the age of 40. Multifocal contact lenses are an alternative to progressive or bifocal glasses or reading glasses worn over single vision contacts.

Alcon’s products for dry eyes

As part of this academy meeting, she also had the chance to attend various lectures and learn more about the various Alcon’s vision care products that they have, such as various dry eye products to help make sure that patients have the correct eye drops for their particular dry eyes.

There can be different types of dry eyes. Consequently, we need to ensure that when we do a thorough dry evaluation on you, the appropriate eye drops are selected.

Alcon’s preservative free artificial tears

Furthermore, she learned about all of the new products Alcon has released. Their newest product, for instance, is preservative free artificial tears in a bottle. Alcon’s preservative free artificial tears are now available in both vials and bottles, so the choice is no longer just confined to vials. This is a great option for patients, as long term use of preservative eye drops is strongly discouraged.

Alcon’s intraocular lenses

Additionally, she learned about the various types of intraocular lenses that Alcon uses for cataract surgery and other surgical procedures. Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are artificial lenses that replace an eye's natural lens to restore near and far vision.
